World Trade Center East is a 16 story, 504,000 sf (46,823 sm), mid-rise office tower located in Boston’s Seaport District. The building is part of the World Trade Center Complex, which also includes World Trade Center West, the World Trade Center and the Seaport Hotel.

As the Seaport District’s pioneer development, the World Trade Center (WTC) Complex helped tranform this industrial area—a major component of the city’s historic maritime industry—into a thriving waterfront community. We had the vision to see opportunity in this unproven area, and were prepared to risk our own capital to transform it into a thriving mixed-use neighborhood.

The addition of World Trade Center East, the Seaport District’s first office building, reflects Pembroke’s goal of creating integrated communities, not simply individual buildings. WTC East brings life to the urban streetscape, and its population of tenants has been a catalyst for other commercial ventures.

The biggest challenge presented by this project was how to market a new commercial area whose revitalization and infrastructure were a work-in-progress. The Seaport District was not a traditional choice for office or retail space, and transportation issues were of particular concern. By working closely with state and federal agencies, we helped bring about short- and long-term transit solutions, including improved commuter boat service, shuttles to Boston’s South Station train station, as well as the new MBTA Silver Line that links the World Trade Center to other areas of Boston.

Our mission was to maintain design continuity with the rest of the WTC complex and preserve the integrity of the waterfront setting, while setting the stage for Boston’s newest district. The World Trade Center East takes its design cues from the neoclassical façade of the original, historic World Trade Center building. We took great care to create open spaces and special destinations within the complex, allowing visitors, tenants and residents to fully enjoy the waterfront setting. WTC East also features Boston’s only sculpture park. The 1.6 acre Eastport Park is an oasis of green space and sea-themed artwork with beautiful views of Boston Harbor.
